Join master printmaker John Marcy as he draws on his lifelong experience as a photographer and printmaker to guide participants in their photo editing process. During this 3 hour workshop, John Marcy will share examples of his work, demonstrate his photo editing techniques, and mentor participants as they work with their own image files.

Participants should have some experience in photoshop and plan to bring a computer with Photoshop and image files to the workshop.

John Marcy holds an MFA in Photography from Yale University and has been involved in various aspects of photographic work for over 40 years. His work in black-and-white printmaking for important contemporary and historically important photographers has been exhibited in many venues, including The Museum of Modern Art, The Wadsworth Atheneum, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, The Worcester Art Museum, a traveling exhibition for the National Geographic Society, and a traveling exhibition for the National Geographic Society, and the National Gallery of Art.

Since retiring from his full-time printing work John has begun production of a comprehensive print archive of his work in photography. John is also busy working in his wood shop, producing custom Vävstuga design weaving tools.


Program Description

During this morning workshop, Master Printmaker John Marcy will incorporate his extensive experience with traditional methods of printmaking as he demonstrates his process of digital photo editing. John says “it is perfectly possible to make a beautiful digital print that that pushes back against the standard digital look.” During this workshop, he will teach participants how he works with photo negatives and digital images to produce archival quality prints.

The first hour of the workshop will showcase John’s extensive experience and allow participants an inside look at his photo editing process. During the second hour of the workshop, participants will work on their own image files with John’s guidance. During the final hour of the workshop, participants will print their edited photos on their choice of high quality paper and John will answer questions.

Participants should plan to bring a computer with Photoshop and image files to edit during the workshop.
