Join us for two fun eclectic dance music sessions in our Farmhouse living room on February 23rd and March 23rd as we continue to build our Fabric of Life Fireside Orchestra. The third session on May 15th will be review for our May 17th Contra Dance at the Buckland Public Hall. Those who wish are invited to join the band on the tunes learned at the Farmhouse sessions.

Join our FOL community band!

Dance music has an important role in our communities. It brings joy not only to those who play, but also to those who listen or dance. Being a part of this process on any level helps our world become a better place.

 

2 Sundays:

February 23:     4-9 PM at the Farmhouse

March 23:           4-9 PM at the Farmhouse

 

Review Session:

May 15:               6-9 PM at the Farmhouse

 

Contra Dance:

May 17:               7-9 PM, Dance at the Buckland Public Hall in Upper Buckland

 

Join us for two fun afternoons of eclectic dance music in our Farmhouse living room this Winter/Spring season as we continue to build our Fabric of Life Fireside Orchestra. Our leaders will focus on making this session fun and rewarding for musicians of all levels. Genres could include tunes from Quebec, Scandinavia, the Balkans, and more. Play melody, harmony, rhythm or even simple long supporting notes (great for beginners as a way to be part of a big band).

 

The third session will be review for our May 17th Contra Dance at the Buckland Public Hall. Those who wish are invited to join the band on the tunes learned at the Farmhouse sessions.

 

Instruments for our orchestra can include:

Schedule:

4:00 – Arrive and get settled

4:15 – Music session 1: beginner-level tunes

5:00 – Break time/drinks/light snacks

5:15 – Music session 2: more advanced tunes

6:00 – Food time (Soup and Salad etc.)

7:00 – Review and Open Jam

9:00 – Bye till next time

 

Instructor:

Eveline MacDougall will lead this year’s Fireside Orchestra series with her engaging teaching style.

Eveline studies, teaches, and performs many genres, including but not limited to traditional Celtic fiddle tunes, South African freedom songs, Balkan, Latin American, experimental music, folk, rock, gospel, klezmer, and music from her motherland of Quebec. In her fatherland, she performs with Forest Avenue and The Uncles, and has worked with the Green River String Band, No Known Address, Fire Pond, the Wholesale Klezmer Band, and the Pioneer Valley Symphony, and other groups.

Eveline is the founder and director of the choral group Fiery Hope—formerly known as Amandla—since 1988. Her artistic partnerships have included Pete Seeger, Horace Clarence Boyer, Wally and Juanita Nelson, Fred Small, and Martin Espada, among many others. Musical activism led to collaborations with Nelson Mandela, Cesar Chavez, Malala Yousafzai, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Eveline is the music teacher at the Full Circle School in Bernardston, MA.

She has taught violin and piano privately since 1990 and has a passion for the music itself, as well as passing an enthusiastic torch to new players.

This music series is being organized in honor of David Allen Kaynor, who spent many decades nurturing and inspiring our dance music community, and now it is our turn to carry the torch forward. The scholarship fund will help make music more accessible to those with limited resources.
